Whatever the
problem needs next.

I design and build across disciplines, allowing necessity to continuously shape my skillset. I care less about defending the edges of my expertise than expanding them if the result will be improved by my doing so.

What kind of design?

My work has focused most heavily within brand design and web development, usually without a hard border between the two.

A bit about me

The edges are part of the work.

I’m Amal, a multidisciplinary designer working across digital products, visual identity, web, print, and everything that happens in the peripheries around these areas.

I’ve spent most of my career on small teams, where “that’s not really my department” isn’t a particularly meaningful answer. I’ve often followed projects from branding concepts to packaging design to the commerce interfaces that sell them and the administrative tools that manage the orders.

I prototype early, but iterate patiently, and am obsessive about understanding how things are made. I’m not particularly attached to executing a concept any one way. I’m attached to arriving at something that feels considered, works properly, and holds up after contact with the real world.

How I tend to work

Find the real problem.
Make something early.
See what survives.
Refine from there.
